Director Don Rase brings an experienced eye to the smart, and subtle humor featured in his entertaining performance-driven work. With his terrific comedic timing, an ear for relatable dialogue and a love for the production process, Don likes to work with talented performers and crew, together creating memorable characters and great stories.
His commercial chops have been honed through years on set in many different roles. He came up through the ranks as a grip, props guy, production manager, assistant director, editor and producer on commercials, TV shows and independent features. While reaching only marginal success in these roles, it became clear directing might be the only way for him to stay in the film business.
20 years latter Don continues to evolve and stay fresh by approaching each new project with a very high level of passion and excitement, and by enduring the uncensored critiques of his opinionated teenage children. Don has a true appreciation for the creative process and considers himself a dedicated collaborator. He is known for running a calm and drama free set, setting a tone where agency, actors, crew and clients all feel valued and welcome to share their ideas. Rase says, “I have always been a, best idea wins, kind of director, and am happy to take credit for any good idea, no matter where it comes from.”
His distinctive, character driven humor is on display in campaigns for McDonalds, Conoco, Dish, Bud Lite, Fathead, Comcast, Skill chainsaws, Smart Car, Ad council, I-hop, LA Film festival and hundreds more national and regional television commercials.
